current and helpful to many people using LTOT.
Lee Olson
is looking for educational information on LTOT to add
to our website. If you have something interesting
that you think would be of value to the LTOT community
please send it to him. It will be reviewed by a
group for pertinence and objectivity and then placed on
the site.
The format and function of the LTOTNet site is ideal for
the communication of issues related to LTOT and the
approach is similar to all the LTOT consensus conferences.
The site is intended to link all interested parties in
LTOT to the resources available for the specific topic.
There are numerous sites that can be found with search
engines, yet we hope to boil down the information into a
useful format that can be applied practically. We
will not try to replace any website or source of
information, we will attempt to link that information for
easy retrieval and provide some insight to the specific
issue.
The LTOTNetwork is not an Association or Society. It is
merely a catalyst to help communicate and facilitate
improvements in LTOT. Volunteers are the key to the
LTOTNetwork. Once a process has begun, it can be
transferred to an interested group to educate, communicate
and hopefully make a positive change in the quality and
availability of appropriate long term oxygen therapy.
For over 20 years, challenges associated with LTOT have
increased. Individual groups have tried to address
these challenges with limited success. We feel networking
all interested parties is an important key to the
solution.
The 5th Oxygen Consensus Conference, held in
Washington, DC in 1999 was the launching pad for the
LTOTNetwork. The 5th Consensus Conference was the last in
a series of conferences targeted at addressing the
practical and political issues in LTOT. The triggers for
the organization of these conferences were changes in
Medicare policies that would have an impact on the access
and quality of care provided to LTOT patients.
At the 5th Oxygen Consensus Conference, the attendees
felt that it would be appropriate to stay on top of issues
related to
LTOT and to create a forum where interested parties could
find information and communicate specifically on this
topic. It was felt that rather than waiting for the need
to call a 6th Oxygen Consensus Conference, the group would
be proactive to collect data and communicate the needs and
benefits of LTOT.
A web site was developed to act as a central location
for information specifically related to LTOT. The
site is now a communication tool for the LTOT community.
Lee Olson
has joined LTOT Network and will stay on top of the web
site to keep it current, useful and informative. Lee
will be the point person for the web site and will be
receiving new information and updating on a weekly basis.
Lee was in the industrial chemical industry for 17 years.
He has over 18 years in the healthcare industry.
Specifically, 9 years providing computer
hardware and software to clinics and physicians for their
practice management needs, plus 9 years to Surgery
Centers, both Same Day and Main OR environments for
departmental management.
More recently, Lee founded a web
site development business based in Minnesota with over 10
years experience as a webmaster. Point of interest;
Julie Varnam, Lee's daughter, was our point person prior
to Lee. Julie has a full plate with work,
home-schooling two teens plus a two-year old rug-runner.
That would put anyone in overload! Good Luck Julie and
thank you for your service to LTOT Network!
